Out of place advise

Yesterday as usual, I was enjoying the Idea Star Singer reality show on Asianet and the contestant Sannidhanandan (Sanni to the viewers and hosts of the programme) was, one thought more than at his best. But what happened after his rendering was a bolt from the blue.

Mr. Ganesh Kumar, former Minister and cine/teleserial actor, the Guest Panelist on the show, directly asked the unassuming contestant whether he was demanding more money for programmes and whether his phone calls were attended to, by his Secretary. The poor fellow mumbled that he was NOT, and said that he has no Secretary but a brother helping him out.  But our honorable MLA was not satisfied and asked whether he is aware that, that is what people "outside" say. To which Sanni said that a mango is supposed to suffer "stone throws" and he has no other go but to face it. And then comes the gem of an observation from the self-appointed "elder brother" that the isuue of whether it is a mango or not, is supposed to be decided by the people. (What else can a people's representative say?). He also went on to advise the singer about the virtues of humility etc.

It was really pathetic to see the baffled Sanni on the stage.  How can anyone ask such a question which is unconnected with the programme?  Making money is no crime and what is wrong when he demands more for his appearances?  Is he supposed to accept whatever pittance the so-called Utsava Committee members offer him? The glitz and glamour associated with the singers in the reality show can fade any time and if they donot cash in on their present popularity, they will be only fooling themselves. Only the really lucky and talented could stay on and nobody can say who that will be. To imply that success has gone into ones head just because he/she demanded a larger piece of the cake, is taking things too far.

And to you Sanni - donot ever allow this observation affect your performance and determination to be a good singer. It is your sunny days and so, MAKE HAY WHILE SUN SHINES. There's nothing wrong in it.
